Initial grid work and Symbol concepts

Initial symbol designs

Here are my initial few symbol designs from using a grid. All of them are very simple and use clean lines, as I wanted to create shapes that would juxtapose my initial poster collages. I developed some iterations using different fill and line weights, but to really test how they would work in the context of the Oripeau project, I decided to put them into my poster designs to work on compositions.

Poster compositions

These are a few of my favourites from today. I think that I will definitely stick with the more simple symbols, such as the circle ones, as the involve more negative space and give room for the design to breathe. I also think that the more ambiguous designs are more interesting for the context of the symbol, as audiences won't understand it without being provided information. Due to this, I think the worst initial symbol idea is probably the swan concept, as it looks too obvious.

Next plans

Next week I really need to focus on selecting my favourite initial designs so I can choose what routes to go down regarding my three final poster designs. I think I need to explore more avenues such as more illustrative work, as well as stripping down and simplifying some of my collages with more negative space. However, I am really happy with the direction my ideas are heading in, I just need to finalise everything and continue to experiment.
