End of module evaluation
Upon reflection, the strengths of the MoodGlyph brief were mainly focused around my ability to collaborate and build a consistent visual brand for the project; this was a crucial learning curve as it pushed me to consider the role of creating a strong visual identity in order to develop more of a contemporary sense of voice. Another strength within the project was definitely the logistical and time management side of things, as because the brief was self initiated, we needed to ensure everything was managed so we had a finished publication on time; this consisted of setting individual deadlines for both of mine and Spencers' tasks as well as the submission deadline and the deadline for the final publication. I think overall we managed these deadlines pretty well, which allowed the project the run fairly smoothly. In regards to the weaknesses within the module, I definitely feel like I could have been more successful in creating a fully refined physical outcome, as I feel like some areas lacked development and professionalism such as the bleed error for the final printed outcome, or some of the quality of the stickers. Despite this, I think the project went pretty well overall, as due to it being a collaborative brief, we managed to create a very well rounded outcome that generally fit a contemporary tone. The element of audience participation worked really well, as due to the submission based format of MoodGlyph, we needed to ensure that our audience were engaged. Due to this, I feel like that I have definitely pushed myself and reached my potential, as it was the first time I've worked collaboratively; I really enjoyed this element of the project, as it helped me bounce my ideas off other creatives. As well as this, I really enjoyed the process of receiving submissions, especially from designers I admire and follow.
I think in terms of using the facilities, we definitely took advantage of producing a full finalised physical product, which turned out really well; it was great to see the finished product take form physically, which pushed the concepts to translate into a tangible product. I also think that the branding on social media worked really well in contributing to the strong brand image of MoodGlyph, as we wanted to create a well rounded visual identity.
The idea of collaboration is definitely something that I want to continue in the future, and apply the techniques I used in future projects. What I enjoyed most about this element of the project was that we are now at a stage where we can continue the MoodGlyph project into the future, as we've been super ambitious with the brief and want to continue working on it post uni deadline. I think out of all of the uni projects so far, this one aligned the most with what I want to do as a designer, in terms of publication design and collaborating with other creatives.
