Initial flag/ poster concepts

Creating textures

I want the flag to be an extension of the album cover components, so it should share a similar visual language; I'm kind of interpreting it as a whole package, so in my approach consistency is key. Due to this, the criteria for the flag should be bold, loud, and rebel against this idea of censorship. In context, this links to the rebellious nature of punks, and how post punk in Russia was born from the collapse of the Soviet Union; in essence, they have more freedom to be loud and chaotic, which is explored in these visuals.

I referenced the hand made nature within Russias punk and post punk scene, by using a digital collage technique of layering loads of super crazy textures and colours; I feel like it fits the micro genre pretty well as it is an explosion of conflicting textures and colours, which encapsulates the juxtaposition between soft vocals and harsh instrumentals within the genre.

These versions developed a border around the texture, and I applied text to frame the design. I like the colours, but I think conceptually, adding a border takes away from the freedom of the design and adds restriction to the outcome; I want the flag to embody and embrace its aggressive textures and represent the colourful underground scene of punk and post punk in Russia. I also want to use super colourful tones to kind of rebel against the melancholy angst of post punk; it introduces a juxtaposition against conceptions, thus relating to punk attitudes.
