Considering the theme of censorship
I thought I could maybe play around with the concept of censorship more with my design, so experimented with developing alternative plastic wallet designs; my intention was to distort aspects of the original outcome. I decided to do so by inverting aspects of the design in order to develop more of a chaotic atmosphere.
This version simply blurred the original concept to create more of a censored/ whitewash effect. The main issue with this is that it looses the components and lacks a strong visual hierarchy; everything kind of merges into one.
Mockups
I decided to test the outcome through developing some plastic bag concepts/ mockups. I'd definitely want the distorted layer to be separate from the actual album cover design, as it would relate to the idea of censorship better.
(final?) collection and improving mockups
These mockups display theoretically how the outcome would work, and how the separate layers would work; I feel like visually these look way too busy and over complicate the design, as there are too many complex colours. I feel like this doesn't fit the atmosphere of the micro genre, due to its complexity; post punk is more stripped back and relies on the juxtaposition between harsh instrumentals and soft vocals - the design looses this softness with the addition of another complex layer.
Whilst developing these mockups I tried to show the separate layers better, as this was highlighted in my crit feedback; these definitely work better as my previous mockups were simple flat lays - at least these have more depth.
I don't think that the inverted plastic wallet layer works very well; this was further reinforced with some peer feedback I received. The main point being that it looks too busy/ complex. I think although it was worth experimenting, I am going to stick with my initial final outcome.
Again, I feel like the blurred outcome also takes away from the depth of the initial final design, and overcomplicates it; in a way, through adding more elements I feel like it makes the outcome less of a confident contemporary design. Due to this, like previously said, I am going to stick with my final outcome as it fits the micro genre both visually and conceptually.
