Playing with images

Initial images

I decided to create some more textured imagery for the book cover design, this time focusing on some quite abstract images that could create quite a nice 'scientific' looking design. Although I want to create a fun and playful design I need to also consider the market and expectations for a science non fiction.

I added a halftone effect to the design to create a more formal design, as well as developing a link to science as it almost looks like a galaxy/ space? I felt like this texture could be pushed further through being cut and morphed into shapes. Also this would help me push my designs further through introducing more drama through adding negative space.

Abstracting shapes / adding text

This concept explores the idea of black holes through cutting shapes out of the previous texture design. I also added two in order to develop a link to the idea of wormholes discussed in the book, as well as balancing the visuals out a bit more. I wanted to experiment with how I could position my type so I wrapped them around the shapes to give a more immersive and 3D perspective. The issue with this idea however, is that I feel like it looks quite bland and almost too serious for the book; I could try playing around with colour more?

This cover is a slight alteration from the previous design, as it explores the idea of time through morphing textures and images into a sand timer shape. This was definitely more playful than the previous concept, and I think the composition works a lot nicer. I think t could be interesting possibly photographing and actual sand timer as it could give a more genuine image, as at the moment it looks a bit too photoshopped.
