Initial improved designs
Based on my feedback from my crit, I improved my alphabet design to fit around my rationale. This allowed my full alphabet to be visible, as previously some letters were covered by the rationale. I then needed to test this approach out by printing it out large scale to see if the type is legible.
Through feedback, I was suggested to make my poster design fit the structure of my specimen to provide more consistency. Due to this, I split the image to be viewable either way round, and repeated the date to fill the gap. The only issue with this was that you can't see the date fully as it has been overlapped.
Here is a developed context specimen poster that I altered to have a bitmap/halftone effect. Although I like the texture, the halftone effect caused the images to look slightly blurred, which I don't think is effective in showcasing my mockup designs. Also, based on feedback I needed to change the poster mockup to one I made in person physically, rather than a digital one.
Physical outcomes and further improvements
I think from these physical tests, I definitely want to print on some form of coloured paper - I like the pink but I want it to be somewhat neutral gender wise.
Final specimen tests with improvements
I made sure to reprint the alphabet poster with corrected spelling and grammar, as I picked up on a misspelling. The type is also quite legible large scale, which allows my specimen to work effectively as a poster (as planned).
I edited the poster slightly to show the date more clearly, and I'm happy with this outcome. I might try with neon coloured paper? Or printing A1 size instead of A2 to give a more realistic impression.
For this print, I improved the image quality and removed the halftone effect. This provided a clearer image but I still kept the black and white effect.
Stuff to do tomorrow?
I quickly had the concept to create some stickers as merchandising for the exhibition - and had reflective vinyl in mind. I created these ligatures for it so might cut these into stickers? I am going to consider this tomorrow.
