Johannes Itten and contrast of extension theory

Johannes Itten is most famous for his colour theories and his association with Bauhaus. A theory noted by Itten was the seven colour contrasts, consisting of:

Contrast of saturation
The juxtaposition of light and dark and their relative saturation.

Contrast of light and dark
The juxtaposition between light and dark values and their monochromatic composition.

Contrast of extension
Assigning visual proportion sizes in relation to the weight of colour.

Contrast of complements
A contrast of the juxtapositions in the colour wheel and perceptual opposites.

Simultaneous contrast
When the boundaries of colours perceptually vibrate.

Contrast of hue
The juxtaposition of different hues.

Contrast of warm and cool
Juxtaposition of tones considered warm or cool.

Johannes' colour wheel looked at the primary, secondary and tertiary colours. Additionally, what I find interesting is the exploration of complimentary and opposite colours. This links to his theory of contrast of extension in colour; the idea of proportion in contrasting colour.

I think for our gif concept, I want to convey the relationships between yellow/purple, orange/blue, red/green. My group suggested the idea of using dyed oil/water to show a split/ diffusion of colours.
