Colour theory gif and rationale

Stills from the gif design

I think the final gif works well to communicate Ittens' colour theories of extension and complementary contrasts, as it uses the contrasting colours and features different proportions; I like how abstract the gif looks, as it has some nice forms created by the movement of liquid. My group and I agree that if we were to improve it, we would use a better quality camera as the image ended up looking quite pixilated as we zoomed in.

Rationale

The gif is inspired by Johannes Itten's theories of 'The Colour of Extension' and 'The Contrast of Complements'. It explores proportional field sizes and the contrast of complements through the juxtaposition of the colour wheel opposites. The use of dye represents the appropriate proportions of colours for Itten's theory of colour extension. The gif shows the process of dyed oil and water mixing and separating to represent this.
