Sticker concept
Another idea I had in terms of physically censoring elements of the publication would to have sections of images and text cut out, with stickers that can be placed by the user to piece the images together. I feel like this would be a fun tactile user experience, as it means that the audience would have to work to learn and educate themselves on the Berlin techno scene.
I started out by removing sections of images with circles to disrupt the imagery and hide the faces of those photographed.
I experimented more with colour and how I could disrupt the type as well; in these examples, I split the block of text in half so it ran onto the other side of the page. This created a nice playful undertone to the navigation and narrative of the concept, which is what I want to explore in order to engage the users more.
I also featured the symbol, techno tourist rule and coordinates that corresponded to the visuals.
I think the main limitation of this method is that even though the images are initially censored, the user can still see their faces which contradicts the idea of the no phone policy in Berlin. I want to stray away from using too many photos, so the visual language can be more ambiguous and intriguing. I want to experiment further with how I could create something more censored without images.
