Speculation
Criticising work and debating it's effectiveness; possibly suggesting other perspectives on the work. Prompt questions:
- What other approaches could I take to the brief?
- Are there any other techniques that work better than the initial work?
- Does my approach fit the criteria?
Research
The process of looking at primary and secondary sources to inform work; taking inspiration from elsewhere. Prompt questions:
- Is the research appropriate for the task assigned?
- Is the inspiration for the work unorthodox/original?
- Is the research in depth/fully explored and not just surface level?
Contextualisation
Placing work into a contextual setting, and providing a sense of purpose and audience to a design; e.g. social, political, and cultural context. Prompt questions:
- Does the design fit into a relevant context?
- Is the chosen context justified?
- Does the work align within the context of your chosen audience?
