trying illustration out for the album covers

illustration for Molchat Domas' 'businessmen'

I thought that I could do with experimenting with different mediums for the album design, as it could push some interesting concepts? These little illustrations were drawn in light to fit the tone of the song 'businessmen' by Molchat Doma; they are drawn in an uneasy and ugly style, in order to communicate the rebellion against authority portrayed within the song. The businessmen are depicted as ugly monsters, in a sense.

I played around with using cropping to focus on areas of the illustration; the full illustration in itself was very off in regards to the album designs composition, so I wanted to focus more on the gritty texture of the eyes of the drawing. This also provided a lot more drama and emphasis on the abstract nature of the design; it gives opportunity for audiences to interpret the illustration into what they want to see - it isn't fully implied that it is a businessman.

These versions combined other elements such as layering aggressive/ sharp shapes to provide a sense of harshness to the design; I like how they frame the design, but all in all I feel like these versions are pretty weak as they don't have a lot of depth/ texture. I want my imagery to be way more immersive and interesting, and probably more abstract.
