Typefaces and textures

Playing with type more

I played around with layering my spikey typeface with some textures in order to test the typeface out; I want my type and imagery to both be powerful individually, and in this case I think the type gets lost in the texture.

These use my other hand drawn typeface, which definitely stands out a lot more; I like the 3D rendered effect I applied to both the text and the abstract shapes, as it provides a very alien atmosphere. However, I feel like in this case, the background texture gets lost in the visual hierarchy of the design, and overall the design lacks the confidence I want to portray.

I don't think the composition of these outcomes work at all; it just looks slightly too boring for the energy I want to provide; my design needs to capture the balance between the melancholy angst of post punk, as well as its chaotic and energetic instrumentals.

Textures

Inspired by Mould Map, I wanted to go kind of crazy with the 3D rendering to create a super chaotic and abstract design; I love how these textures look super alien which links to the idea of the literal alienation of punks and post punk in Russia.

Despite this, I feel like this outcome lacks the atmosphere I want to develop; it needs more of a gritty texture and personality to it; this version looks way too shiny and 'clean'. Also the type just looks a bit boring and too legible; it kind of looks like its been plonked onto the design.

I quite like the ugly colour scheme of this outcome; for some reason it just seems to capture the atmosphere of the genre by providing a feeling of unease and uncomfortableness.
