Playing with texture/ symbols

 Playing with texture/ symbols

I wanted to create some new experiments with the symbol designs that could potentially be used in the poster concepts for the techno tourist guide. I felt like the poster designs could be a good opportunity to explore different textures and maybe take on a more maximalist approach? The only limitation of this is that this kind of visual language might not compliment the publication design, thus hindering the consistency of the project. As well as this, the actual symbols on the posters need to be recognisable in order to make it easier for the audience to find them on the scavenger hunt; a super chaotic visual language might be too overwhelming?

I created more of an airbrushed/ 3D effect to the symbols which created an interesting urban effect that kind of related to the outdoor setting of the posters. This style however, is very different from the block colour style applied to the minimal designs of the publication; will this make the symbols less recognisable? As well as this, in order to experiment and play with composition by layering the symbols to create a pattern design; this could maybe be interesting to feature on the CD cover? But I don't think these would work for a poster concept.

This design explores an even more maximalist design, very much inspired by Jonathan Castro; the pattern features the symbols layered upon one another, which creates a super chaotic visual pattern. I really like how this turned out, but I'm unsure about what context I could fit it into the actual project.

This design features all of the symbols slightly censored by cutting them into 5 sections. This has given me the idea that maybe my poster designs could be more like a banner format? This would mean that I could explore themes of censorship through super cropping the symbols; this might make it easier to keep the symbols recognisable with their colour palettes, rather than creating a super chaotic design.
