Distribution
How does your audience initially hear/ see/ engage with the work?
Is this appropriate?
The techno tourist publication will be available in independently run book stores, as it is essentially an educational travel guide to Berlin's techno scene. This works with my primary audience, as it is very niche topic; the project is a guide specifically for techno tourists outside of Berlin.
The narrative of the techno tourist guide begins with the publication format, which serves as an educational tool before the audience visit Berlin. However, the narrative/ user experience leads to the poster series that will be located in Berlin. Due to this, there is the potential that the poster series has another initial audience of Berlin locals, as they will be distributed in key locations that relate to the Berlin techno scene. In light of this, the poster series also serves as a reminder to Berlin locals of the history of the techno scene, and places that are important within the city.
What's the outcome? What is their role/ aim?
As mentioned, the outcome of the techno tourist guide is to both educate people on the Berlin techno scene in order to ease the tension between the techno community and techno tourists; the aim consequently is to help protect and preserve the culture of the techno scene, and prevent tourists from disrespecting the community.
Audience interaction
The way that the audience interacts with the publication is that they twist each separate disk to form the type/ symbols. This is in order to communicate the theme of censorship within the project, relating to the anti phone policies protecting the Berlin techno scene. This also makes the user experience more immersive, encouraging the audience to work in order to educate themselves.
The poster series also follows the same rules as the publication, where the physical poster is distorted/ censored, then can be twisted as a digital poster when scanned. This again relates to protecting the techno scene in Berlin, through censorship of the posters.
Why is a publication/ poster the most appropriate platform?
Printed formats are appropriate for my project as they go against social media/ overusing technology in order to relate to the anti phone policy of Berlin's nightlife. The only use of technology within the project is the map and the interactive digital posters, which still avoid taking photos and social media so they're still relevant.
