Typesetting/ content for the inner CD case

Typesetting/ content for the inner CD case

Upon reflection, the initial inner CD case designs I created didn't consider what could be included behind the actual CD publication, which I feel like was a missed opportunity as it would link well to the themes of censorship I want to continue to explore.

In terms of the user experience and narrative of the publication, the audience will only be able to see the inner cover once they have read the publication. Due to this, the content on the inner cover needs to inform the audience what to do next/ the purpose of the publication. I wrote a quick summary that is both informative and hints at the scavenger hunt map; although it isn't massively explicit in order to make the audience figure it out themselves:

In the wake of the digital world, Berlin’s techno scene is under threat. A subculture that has previously existed as an ‘underground’ scene is now being exposed online through an accumulation of tourism; to be precise, what the locals refer to as ‘techno tourists’.

Berlin’s nightlife welcomes people of all shapes and sizes, celebrating unity through electronic music; the techno scene is rich in cultural history, with the 1989 reunification being at the heart of bringing people together regardless of their identity. Now more than ever, this sense of community is being jeopardised by a disregard of these core values, predominantly as a result of the rise in ‘techno tourists’. Despite being a fair few, this reckless behaviour from outsiders of the community is incredibly detrimental to the authenticity of Berlin’s techno scene; many locals coined the phrase ‘clubsterben’ to refer to the closure of clubs as a result of tourist gentrification.

It’s down to you, as a ‘techno tourist’, to be aware of these issues in order to both respect and protect one of the most influential subcultures in the electronic scene. Use this guide as an insight into Berlin techno and prepare yourself before navigating through the city known as the ‘techno capital of the world’.

To refine the type setting of the design, I felt like it needed a title and a QR code link to the map; this makes the user experience clearer, as the map will be contextualised in a way. Also, the visual hierarchy of having the german title links to the audiences' role as an outsider; to understand it, they'll have to translate it. The title reads 'a guide to techno tourism'.

I'm not sure if this version overcomplicates the type setting, but I played around with adding the symbols to break up the type; I feel like it definitely provides more of a playful tone, and continues to keep the motif of the symbols, but it possibly strays away from the more minimal design/ visual language of the project so far.
