Adapt - witty design in online activism

 Adapt

"Adapt is a climate club and creative organisation, using design, humour and contemporary culture to communicate climate issues in a new way. We run Adapt in order to share knowledge, encourage action and build a community of motivated activists."

I feel like the climate change activist group Adapt is a perfect example of how design can be used to vocalise political ideas and spread awareness through fun and witty outcomes; the online activist group creates instagram posts and posters to visually represent facts and info on climate change. I love how the organisation uses playful imagery and eye catching colour schemes to educate people on issues in a non violent and fun way - this definitely resonates with the tone of voice that I want to explore in my book.

This has inspired me to possibly be more informative in the content that I feature in my publication; I could include info and context alongside my stickers to have more of a balance between serious political issues and fun visuals. In terms of the content, I could also design bumper stickers and stickers that would communicate Adapts' messages in a more visually exciting way; this could translate the idea of sharing their instagram posts into a physical format through stickers - the user can be an activist by sticking informative messages everywhere, in the same way protesters use placards.

Nature is a Human Right

This is in an example of a design created by Adapt for a protest, that uses witty political commentary in a non violent way; I definitely want to ensure that my publication uses this non violent approach. I think that I want to focus on environmental activism for my book as it does celebrate non violent approaches, and is a lot easier to explore fun and witty imagery. I think now I want to create some designs that use mottos and messages from accounts such as Adapt, and look at more of their projects.
