Its Freezing in LA!
In terms of existing publications that tackle the issue of climate change, Its Freezing in LA is a perfect example of design within activism. The whole publication is designed sustainably; the type is super crammed into the publication in order to save paper waste, as well as the print process only using a few test prints to minimise waste in general.
The magazine is designed really successfully in how it balances a fun and playful visual imagery, yet contrasting this with the serious and educational topics discussed within its content. This is extremely relevant to what I want to explore in my own book, as despite the visual language of my stickers being witty and lighthearted, the book needs to continue its role as activism by serving as an an educational platform. As well as this, in terms of the actual content for my book, I think it would be interesting to translate the topics discussed within Its Freezing in LA into my own book; I could use similar techniques of typesetting to keep my publication sustainable and less wasteful. Also, Its Freezing in LA's ethos has massively influenced by design decision to use recycled vinyl and paper stock, as not only the content but the actual materials of my sticker book needs to resonate with climate change activisms' ideologies and stances.
