Experimenting with book layout
I wanted to explore how I could reference the idea of a scrapbook more for the layout of the publication, as it would celebrate the concept of stickers as a collectable item more. Due to this, I developed these mockups with a lot more of a sporadic composition, which provided more of a collectable feel. I also think that having this very chaotic sense of voice aligns with the tone for my publication, as I want it to embrace positivity and a fun perspective on activism and politics. The colour scheme also captures this fun and playful element, with combining intentionally ugly colours in order to represent the concept of conflicting with authority and the act of rebellion.
The layout for this concept experiments with the use of tip-ins to further exaggerate the sense of collectiveness; there needs to be this idea of pages been broken up with context added through tip-ins to create more of an interesting architecture for the book, as well as providing content in regards to contextualising the stickers/ visuals. I also added in a bumper sticker/ banner shaped sticker that would pay homage to the origins of politics and stickers, as well as exploring how the format can be more interactive.
In regards to the sticker element of the design, I was thinking that certain sections of the books layout could be peeled away as stickers, in order to explore the user experience and develop more a fun interactivity.
I think that now I'm at a stage where I need to keep expanding on my ideas and generate more experimentation; such as playing with format and the architecture of the design.
