Generating visuals for the political compass concept

 Typeface



This typeface is a manipulated version of papyrus sans, drawing round the glyphs to create more of a playful and bolder typeface. I still really like how papyrus sans relates to meme culture, but it is more of a body text rather than titles - the text above was created for the titles for the political compass axis. I still think that this typeface fits the tone of voice of the political compass game, as it doesn't follow any rules and still kind of has the super rounded and soft edges of comic sans. 

Visuals

The colour scheme for the actual board of the game needed to reference the political compass to allow the user to recognise each section; the outcome somewhat reinvents the political compass, with references to intentionally bad graphics with the addition of 3D rendering. I still want the visual language to feel contemporary, but with subtle references to memes such as the colour schemes and type design. 





These outcomes experiment with how I could add more depth to the visuals, through adding elements of black to provide more textural components; visually, it looks nice but I feel like it lacks a strong association with the political compass itself. As well as this, I think I could possibly add a grid to help the user place the images on specific points of the compass. Also, in terms of the type, I feel like it dominates the board too much, and takes up too much space which hinders the user from using the actual board. I need to develop this element more to make the aim of the game slightly clearer.
