Notion of absurdism concept - meme inspired typeface
'Papyrus sans'
Inspired by the age old graphic design meme of comic sans and papyrus, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to apply meme culture to a typeface; papyrus sans is a hybrid between the two (brilliantly disgusting) typefaces, and celebrates meme culture with curved glyphs and serifs, alongside the signature ragged edge of papyrus. This little experiment was mainly just a way of creating some quick visual responses to my essay, but I definitely want to feature it somehow in my final outcome.
These are some quick poster concepts that use papyrus sans, as well as combining an intentionally awful 3D rendered effect that pays homage to the 3D graphics in word art. As well as this, I kind of wanted to really go over the top with the meme references, so featured 'clippy' from the old Microsoft word as the central focus of the designs' visual hierarchy. I definitely think that this intentionally bad visual language works, as it aligns with meme humour and relates to the absurdity of memes. I want to continue experimenting with this visual style, by putting my own stamp on meme culture icons.
