Notions of absurdism instructions

 Instructions

Notions of absurdism (logo)

Welcome to notions of absurdism! The game where nothing makes sense! The aim of the game is to match memes to their correct placement on the political compass, but the only issue… it’s completely absurd!

How to play:

  1. Gather your fiends (or play alone) and grab 5 cards each from the meme card pile.
  2. In turns, place your meme card where you think they belong on the political compass. For an extra challenge, try timing yourself to put the cards down!

  3. After you have decided where to place the meme card, turn your cards over and reveal the correct answers using the red reveal sheet.

  4. Reward yourself 2 points if the meme placement is correct, and 1 point if you placed your meme card within a 1 square radius of the correct location.

  5. Repeat this for as many rounds as you like and tally up your points to reveal the winner!

Design

The design for the instructions card is pretty minimal, but this was crucial as after all, the instructions do need to be clear. I still stuck to using comic sans to provide consistent elements; I think if I used papyrus sans it would be a bit too chaotic. I also wanted to experiment with adding a slight worn effect to the visual language of the game; I added a texture onto the instructions card which definitely gave the design more of a nostalgic feel reminiscent of old battered board games. I think visually this works better, as it avoids the game looking flat and too clean; i think adding elements of texture allows the design to feel more contemporary and refined.
