Political compass/ cards game concepts

 Political compass concept

After brainstorming some ideas for my practical outcome, I have decided I want to create some kind of interactive game that explores meme culture within politics and the theory of the 'notion of absurdism' behind it. A perfect example of politics becoming a meme is the political compass meme; there are loads of memes about this circulating the internet, and they often involve people putting random images such as pasta onto the compass through labelling them on their political alignment. This relates massively to the notion of absurdism, as people are politicising things that have no correlation at all with politics. Due to this, this inspired my concept to make the political compass board game; the game is intentionally stupid and impossible, as the elements within it don't relate at all. As shown in the sketch above, the game involves a board for the political compass, and a set of cards with random shitposts/ images on it. The aim of the game is to place each card onto the compass based on where the user thinks it belongs politically. This kind of relates to the idea of 'energy' found in meme culture, and takes inspiration from Leah Malonado creating typefaces based off the 'meme-culture classic' alignment chart. To further expand on the designs' references to meme culture, the user then scans a QR code to submit where they placed each image to a meme account.

Drawing cards concept

This concept explores the idea of interactivity, but more in the sense that the user has to create the content of the design. The idea consists of a pack of cards that feature prompts for the user to draw random things with political undertones. Afterwards, the user then submits their drawings to a meme account via a QR code, which explores the sense of community within social media and meme culture. The main drawback with this design however, is that it is more of a single use game, unless I created hundreds of prompt cards.
