Creating a typeface

Initial type design

I decided to create a digital typeface design, that look inspiration from the visual language within post punk; looking at the blocky, angular shapes in brutalism to create a harsh and angular typeface. The typeface explores this through rigid glyphs and oddly placed serifs/ blocks. I feel like it is very contemporary for the outcome, as 8 bit and blocky type is very popular currently.

Combining with visuals

I used the typeface to frame the image and create a consistency with the colour palette; using the type to add touches of green to juxtapose the pink colours. I feel like the text in these cover ideas compliments the imagery, as it offers a more clean, yet angular side to the aggressive and rough thresholded images. I think to further experiment I need to try having smoother angles possibly, and play around with the typeface in general. e.g. using different line weights.
