Further contemporary design research

SafeHaven

I saw this particular design by SafeHaven on instagram and thought it was really striking; the neon green and black contrast works super well, and fits in with contemporary design trends. I love how the design (although not for an album cover), is very busy and crowded with lots of collective imagery, yet framed with negative space- it has an atmosphere of a flat lay design. I like how it combines images with illustrative components, and immerses the viewer to travel along the image. This has inspired me to experiment with using several images in my album design, to build a somewhat chaotic design.

Arborias

I looked at this piece by Arborias on instagram, and was intrigued by its use of pixelated imagery; it linked the the blocky visuals in Russian constructivism and brutalism yet provides a modern touch by relating to 8-bit and digital technology. The typeface also influenced my initial type design, as it uses blocky shapes with no serifs. This kind of design would work really nicely for my poster/flag design, as I could pixilate images to develop and image based piece.

Maria Vorobjova

I really liked the handmade nature of this design, as it uses textures like felt tips and a photocopied image; this relates to the diy element of the origins of post punk, and things like underground punk zines posters in Soviet Russia. I quite like the typeface for this cover, as it has the messy/ chaotic nature of post punk instrumentals, without being too stereotypical to the genre.

I really like the melancholy atmosphere in this cover, and how it communicates an eerie tone with abstracted imagery and textures; the cover does so with an extreme crop which could be interesting to use with my own imagery.
