Hand drawn type

Hand drawn type

After creating a digital type, I wanted to explore the hand made nature of punk/ post punk by create a rough and hand rendered type design; I made it intentionally 'bad' or careless, to reflect the reckless nature of punk culture. In contrast to my previous typeface design, I like how this has more personality and doesn't look as clean/ cold- it adds a more energetic feel to the cover.

Adding to designs

I decided to replace the type in my previous designs with the new typeface, to see what it would look like in regards to framing the imagery. I think with a transparent fill, it kind of gets lost in the design and doesn't offer the impact I'd like it to. However, I need to consider what I want to be the key component of the design - what do I want to be dominant in the visual hierarchy?

Colour

To combat the issue with the type getting lost in the album covers visuals, I filled it in with colour to contrast with the textures. I chose colours that juxtaposed the imagery, as I wanted to reflect the themes of conflict within post punk and the juxtaposition between vocals and instrumentals. I feel like I could play around with this composition more; maybe try duplicating the type? I need to decide on what I want to be the key component - also, I could try having the type something other than the band name? Or I could put the track titles on the inner sleeve?
