Playing with text and Tarkovsky shots

Tarkovsky imagery/ layering text

I decided to layer different tarkovsky shots to play with the idea of using a plastic film/ wallet; elements of this design could work nicely separated from certain components in order to build a multi layered design. I wanted to create the juxtaposition between harshly thresholded images and soft pastel colours, which links to the tone of post punk. However, the type used in this design looks a bit too stereotypical for a post punk album, with a blackletter type.

This design focuses on the idea of Molchat Doma meaning 'houses are silent', with a tarkovsky shot of a burning house; the cut out circle frames this imagery, alongside using a ripped type effect to introduce harshness; this also could be printed separately?

This version was inverted to experiment with colour palettes; I don't think the white in this design works very well, as there is little juxtaposition.

I think that the best next development I could make for these outcomes would be to create my own typeface in order to have a more confident contemporary design.
