In-store record covers (contextual)

In-store cover design

Prior to starting the project, I looked at some album cover designs to inspire the generation of initial ideas for the album cover development. This would help contextualise my design through looking at contemporary album cover and strategies used within them

I really like the collaged nature of the design and the manipulation of images; the inverted visuals give it an eerie atmosphere which is pretty relevant to the dark tones of post punk. I think that the visuals fit nicely together, yet offer a harsh and somewhat chaotic nature with a strong contrast between colours and shapes - the black background offers a nice amount of negative space whilst also creating drama and emphasis.

This design fits really well into the context of screenprinting, as it uses a two tone colour scheme; this could be interesting to take inspiration from, as this cover in particular uses gradients which might be a challenge to get right?

I like the concept of cutting out elements of the record cover, as it could work nicely in providing s multi layered nature to the design, thus creating a more immersive experience. This could also work with revealing different colours possibly?

I really like the focus on textures in this cover, as it feels very abstract and fits a contemporary atmosphere; this is crucial in the context of the brief as it will be exhibited in a contemporary setting. Most of the designs I have looked at are very image focused, as I seem to be visually drawn to album covers without text - they have more of an intriguing and allusive nature.
