Experiments with texture
In order to play around more with colours and textures, I decided to add a gradient map of a subtle texture, as I felt like it would make the designs more playful. I don't really like how these turned out, as the black type looks a bit plonked on top of the texture. Also, as previously mentioned, having the full background in colour distracts from the type. I kind of just made these for the sake of experimenting.
Threshold textures
I don't like these experiments either as for some letters, the contrast is very minimal and the visual hierarchy is a bit washed out. I think I need to start creating some outcomes that stick to a black and white colour palette, as it would place more emphasis on the letterforms.
These double page layout concepts explore the use of gradients further, by using colour for both the background and the type. This effect worked for some letters, but when it was a double page spread where the colours were similar, the contrast was super washy. Due to this, I'm going to develop more layout concepts that have better contrast and use colour minimally.
