Response to feedback (publication spreads)
I briefly spoke to Spencer about what his opinions were on the initial layout designs I had created; although the colours successfully related to the emotions of the letterforms, we both agreed that having a full colour spread distracted from the type and looked too busy. As well as this, Spencer suggested that we could have a double page spread for each letter; one in black and white showcasing the actual letter form, then the right hand side communicating the mood through colour. Due to this, I thought I'd experiment with some layout concepts that used this approach.
Peer feedback
After creating these page layouts, I wanted to get some external feedback from peers in order to gather suggestions for improvements/ design developments. The general feedback was that these designs work pretty well as a double page spread, as they reinforce the concept of colours relating to emotions, but still using negative space to emphasise the actual letters. Despite this, there were some things suggested; for example, it was suggested that I could add something to the gradient pages to relate to the mood, such as a little bit of type stating what emotion the letterform is inspired by. As well as this, I could maybe try adding the emotion stickers to the gradient pages, in order to make it clearer to the audience what mood each letter is inspired by. Another idea that I had in the crit was to introduce other aspects to the package of the publication; I thought since we're involving colour into the design, it would be fitting to include mood rings with the publication package, as the audience could put them on and see what emotions they were feeling. This would relate to the idea I had for the business cards, as we could put a colour chart for the mood rings on the back of a business card, and then have a prompt for the person to draw a letterfrorm based on what the mood ring tells them. I just spoke to Spencer very briefly, and he's very keen on the concept so I might look into ordering some mood rings.
